Samatha Swasey, 24, of Ocean Township, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstruction and simple assault in connection with the Monday-night incident, police said.

Officers Glennis Polanco and Christopher Stenger initially responded at about 11:33 PM to a report of a row between a man and woman at the Continental Gardens apartments on Willow Drive.

Police said that Swasey grew increasingly aggressive with Officer Polanco, ignoring orders, then putting up a struggle with officers trying to handcuff her.

Swasey was eventually subdued, but not before kicking Officer Stenger in the chest, police said. After booking at headquarters, she was released to await a court appearance.

Officers Alon Bercovicz and James Woodley assisted in the apprehension.

Charges are allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
