TRS Prom-Downtown TR 2

Among the many events last year’s high school seniors missed out on was a Senior Prom which is certainly one of the highlights of the school year.  It’s an event that takes months of planning and in some cases years of fundraising and in 2020 they were all cancelled because of COVID-19.  However the Class of 2021 at Toms River High School East, North and South will indeed have a night to remember at the end of the school year thanks to creative thinking, detailed planning and the efforts of many as all three will have “outdoor” proms in the weeks ahead.

TR East will hold their prom at Argo Farms in Forked River on Thursday, June 17.  The farm grounds regularly host weddings and other parties so being the location for a senior prom is not a stretch.  Of course all COVID related restrictions will be followed and Principal Pat Thomas said the final number of attendees will likely be decided by Governor Murphy who is expected to announce an ease on restrictions as early as next week.

TR North has also found a unique venue for their Senior Prom on Friday, May 21 at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton which is the home of the Trenton Thunder who now play in the MLB Draft League.  The prom will be on the stadium concourse so even a bit of rain won’t stop it and like with High School East all safety protocols will be in place.  Principal Ed Keller they are also still waiting for additional guidelines from the state but they will have foul pole to foul pole so space will not be an issue.

TR South students won’t have to travel far…as a matter of fact they can walk from the school.  The Indians are going to stage their prom on Washington Street right in front of town hall on Thursday, May 20.  With the assistance of local government and the business community the street will be closed down, lights will be hung, music will play and hopefully a good time will be had by all.

Principal Mike Citta told me that the seniors might forget some things about prom night but they’ll never forget the location.  By the way if rain becomes a problem the event would be held the next night on the football field but let’s be optimistic.
