CRESSKILL — A person found dead in a Bergen County townhouse was beaten with a baseball bat, according to officials.
Police went to a home on Stonegate Trail in Cresskill after receiving a 911 call about an incident around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday evening, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. The victim, Irma Daniels, 48, died from blunt force trauma, according to Musella.
An investigation determined John Daniels Jr., 30, who also has an address on Stonegate Trail, struck Irma Daniels in the head with a baseball bat.
John Daniels Jr. was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree hindering apprehension by providing false information and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He is being held at the Bergen County Jail.
Musella said Irma Daniels is John Daniels Jr.'s stepmother.
Neighbors told the Daily Voice that police talked to a younger member of her family who was taken into custody.
