What Is A Whale Shark?

Have you ever heard of a whale shark? These gentle giants are the largest fish in the world, growing more than 40 feet long!

Despite their size, they’re generally harmless to people and feed mostly on plankton and tiny fish. Their beautiful, spotted bodies make them easy to recognize.

Pretty amazing when you think about it: one of the biggest fish in the ocean, and they’re not out looking for trouble!

Was A Whale Shark Spotted At The Jersey Shore?

According to a Patch report, "A group of anglers fishing offshore for tuna were treated to a rare sighting on Saturday when a rare whale shark circled the boat they were fishing aboard. The Jamaica, a 125-foot vessel that sails from Brielle, was fishing at the Hudson Canyon for tuna on Saturday when a whale shark surfaced and circled the boat."
