"Race to Cure Sarcoma" in New Jersey

This means so much to me, it is a rare cancer that affected one of my close friends and a previous co-workers here at WOBM.You might know her and remember her smile, Jamie Cook. Jamie was our Promotions Director here at the station and a lot of you know she moved on to bigger things, but we've remained close since she left. I've always loved her so much, she's funny and I know this is the greatest struggle of her lifetime. From losing her hair going through chemotherapy, her brave battle with this cancer with strength, and a fight for a cure.

Please take a moment and read Jamie's story:

I was diagnosed in November 2015 with Pleomorphic Liposarcoma in my right thigh - my little "lump" in the road. I had tumor removal surgery on December, 31st 2015 and woke to 2016 tumor free - I had (4) rounds of intense inpatient chemo and then (8) weeks of daily radiation treatments (Monday - Friday) which was a total of approximately (36) treatments. I felt completely lost being diagnosed at 29 with a rare form of cancer - and knew when all was said and done & I was healthy, I wanted to do something to make sure the word was spread about this cancer in hopes to get more research and resources out there to help the doctors understand this cancer. This is what I could do - support the research by helping bring donations in for the foundation to continue to do what they do - as you can see, there are many different sub types of this cancer and so many different ways to treat it - so the research is key to help the doctors with the resources they need to better understand Sarcoma. I also want to bring awareness to Sarcoma - I remember the first time I felt my lump, I ignored it for weeks because it was my leg, I probably just banged it - so its important to me to spread the message to others to know and understand their body and to never be embarrassed to see a doctor. - - - - Jamie Cook

Sarcoma is a rare cancer in adults (1 percent of all adult cancers) but rather prevalent in children (about 20 percent of all childhood cancers). At any one time, 50,000 patients and their families are struggling with sarcoma. Every year, nearly 15,000 new cases are diagnosed and about 6,000 people die from the disease.
