The Forked River shelter announced that it will pause operations in roughly 30 days to begin long-awaited construction improvements. As that deadline approaches, several animals are still waiting for permanent homes, including six dogs, eight cats, and a rabbit, thanks to the patch.com.

Many locals still know the shelter simply as Popcorn Park, even though it is now officially called the Associated Humane Societies (AHS) Forked River Animal Shelter.

Animals Still Waiting for Homes

The name may be different, but the mission remains the same. For decades, this beloved shelter and zoo have been a place of compassion, education, and second chances for animals in need.

The organization has confirmed plans to remove the aging structure and replace it with a brand-new facility built to meet modern standards.

Why Popcorn Park Is Temporarily Closing

The updated shelter is expected to offer a more comfortable environment for animals, improved accessibility for visitors, and better resources for staff and volunteers. AHS says the new space is designed to strengthen its role as a community hub while raising the level of care provided to every animal that comes through its doors.

How the Community Can Help Right Now

This temporary closure marks the beginning of something better, but the animals still waiting don’t have the luxury of time. If you would like to adopt or help out, CLICK HERE.

Each adoption, foster placement, and act of kindness helps ensure they are safe, loved, and cared for as the shelter prepares for its future.
