Police in Secaucus, NJ find two men who robbed and carjacked woman outside a Walmart
Police in Secaucus worked quickly to find two men who allegedly robbed and carjacked a woman at knifepoint outside of the Walmart on Park Plaza Drive earlier this week.
The victim called the police around 10:49 am on Wednesday morning informing them what happened.
She was uninjured in the encounter but the two men made off with her cash and 2016 BMW M23 convertible.
Secaucus Police said that their Anti-Crime Unit investigated the scene of the crimes and was able to later deduct that the men came to the area in a 2022 Nissan Altima which itself was carjacked from New York City the day prior to this carjacking.
Detectives were able to later locate the stolen BMW M23 along Brenner Street in Newark and with some assistance from the Newark Police Department, investigators found the suspects -- 19-year-old Xavier Cenpin and 19-year-old Caliente Gaillard from Newark -- in a stolen 2022 Nissan Altima.
When police were arresting the suspects, they said that they found Cenpin with the knife he used in the carjacking.
Newark Police did see the stolen 2016 BMW M23 on Brenner Street but police said that the operator of the vehicle at that time took off and remains on the run.
Secaucus Police said that the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may be made as an end result.
“When someone is the victim of a crime in Secaucus, I have authorized my Detectives to follow the case into any jurisdiction so that justice can be served,” Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said in a written statement. “I am proud of the diligent efforts and determination of the Secaucus Police Anti-Crime Unit and for making arrests in this case within hours of the crimes. I am thankful for the assistance from the Newark Police Department and Essex County Sheriff’s Office. I and hopeful our criminal justice system prevails and the defendants will be held accountable for victimizing an innocent woman at knifepoint.”
Police said that Cenpin and Gaillard are charged with Armed Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Carjacking, and Armed Robbery and Receiving Stolen Property with Cenpin also being charged with Unlawful Possession of Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Meanwhile, Gaillard was already a wanted man by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for Burglary.
Following the arrests, Gaillard and Cenpin were brought to the Hudson County Jail.
