Frank Cooper, 40, is charged with eluding, possession of cocaine, tampering with evidence, loitering with the purpose of obtaining drugs, and receiving stolen property after a brief chase on Route 35 Monday night.

According to authorities, detectives staked out on the highway near Sunset Avenue watched what they considered suspicious activity at about 7:39 PM. They tried to bring Cooper's car to the roadside, but he took off, officers following with lights flashing and siren blaring, until the chase ended at the Asbury Park traffic circle.

Investigators allege that Cooper tossed drugs from the car during the wild ride. They also accused him of having a stolen driver's license.

Cooper was released on a criminal summons, to await his initial court appearance.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
