Point Pleasant man injured after driving thru light in Brick
A Point Pleasant man is hospitalized with head and chest injuries after running a light on Route 88 in Brick Thursday night around 5:42 pm and colliding with another car waiting to turn left onto Jack Martin Boulevard.
Brick Police say Christos Michael, 57, was traveling west on Route 88 in an orange Harley Davidson Dyna Glide approaching the intersection with Jack Martin Boulevard.
Burke Blackman, 75, of Brick was stopped meanwhile in his 2015 beige Lexus RX3 on Route 88 east, in the intersection, waiting to make a left turn onto Jack Martin Boulevard when the traffic signal cycled from green to amber.
As Blackman started to make the left turn, police say Michael continued through the intersection and struck the Lexus.
Investigators say that based on initial reports and roadway evidence, it appears to them that the Harley Davidson was down and sliding through the intersection prior to the impact with the Lexus.
Michael was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Brick Township Police Department's Emergency Medical Services along with MONOC Paramedics.
Police say it does not appear that the injuries sustained in the crash are life threatening.
There were no injuries reported to Blackman or his passenger Marie McGinty, 74, of Brick.
Vehicular traffic on Route 88 was detoured around the scene for about an hour and a half during the investigation.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted by Patrolman Lampiasi and Patrolman Donnelly of the Brick Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit.
Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or who has information pertaining to the crash is asked to contact Patrolman Lampiasi at (732) 262-1141.
