Point Pleasant Beach is taking two major steps to try to slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus by closing the borough's most popular tourist destination and writing up rules to stop the rental of vacation homes.

In a Tuesday afternoon release, Mayor Paul Kanitra announced that barriers will be placed at the boardwalk and inlet parking lots to physically block public access to the area that he says, "is simply too narrow an area for people to keep a proper 6 foot radius around themselves".

In addition, the same announcement said that the borough plans to temporarily stop private, online, and realtor originated vacation rentals in an effort to discourage visitors from stressing the area's resources.
