Pit Bulls Attack Two in Toms River
Two men in Toms River are recovering from multiple gashes after being attacked by a pair of pit bulls early this morning.
Police say the dogs lunged at a 45-year-old victim on Cranmoor Drive near the banks of the river around 6 AM, then turned on a 60-year-old who heard his screams.
According to authorities, the Caldwell individual who owns the animals had reported them missing hours earlier, around the same time that a near-attack was called to police from a Taco Bell on Route 37.
They haven't identified the owner, who they say has been staying in a dwelling on Money Island. Police also have not disclosed whether the dogs were leashed during any of the reported incidents, or what might have provoked the attacks.
A township officer corralled the dogs and placed them in the care of township Animal Control staffers. The owner's been questioned.
