Pedestrian run over in Stafford, police seek witnesses

No charges are currently filed against a Manahawkin driver who police say ran over a pedestrian on Route 72 Thursday afternoon, but police seek witnesses as they continue examining the circumstances.

Marilyn Wenz, 79, had left Stafford Square and was westbound on Route 72 at 3:41 PM in a 2014 Chevrolete Impala. The pedestrian was hit while crossing the highway at mile marker 22.5, police said.

The victim was taken to Atlanticare Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment of serious injuries, police said. The victim's identity is shielded until police notify next of kin.
