In a recent article from MSN.COM “Top 50 North American attractions you should visit once” they list fantastic places you must visit here in all of North America. One of the locations on this list is right here in New Jersey, at least some of us consider it New Jersey.

I guess it depends on who you ask, but the iconic Statue of Liberty is a must see. Millions have passed through Liberty Island to see Lady Liberty and if you visit then you are going through Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. It is very cool that this iconic landmark made a list of “must see” destinations in all of North America.

The only way to access the Statue of Liberty is by boat. Official ferries depart from Battery Park on the New York Side and Liberty State Park on the Jersey side. The ferries leave Liberty State Park and first stop at Ellis Island, the historic port for immigrants  As America's busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 to 1954, it processed approximately 12 million immigrants to the United States through the Port of New York and New Jersey.

After Ellis Island, it was off to Liberty Island where the Statue of Liberty and museums are located. Be sure to not only tour Lady Liberty but also walk the grounds and tour the museum as well. Tickets for the statue also give you an option to tour the "pedestal" and the "crown" but they are limited and may not always be available.

There are restrooms and refreshments available on the island. Try to avoid bringing oversized bags and backpacks as some are prohibited and there are several security checkpoints to go through, depending on your particular ticket options. We toured the "pedestal" and it was interesting. You can either take the stairs up or there is an elevator. Crown tickets are on a longer waiting list, so if you wanna go up-up-up be sure to book well ahead of time.

April and I totally enjoyed our trip and it was another "bucket list" trip. I’ll consider Lady Liberty a “Jersey Girl” you will have to make that decision on your own :) but just enjoy her history, beauty, and mission.
