Get Outdoors! One Of The Best Boardwalks In New Jersey
One of the Best Boardwalks In NJ
If you are looking for a great boardwalk in New Jersey this summer, one that I haven't visited in a while is fun and adds new attractions and things to do each summer. I am talking about the Asbury Park boardwalk in Monmouth County.
We have lots of great boardwalks in Jersey, we invented them lol. According to Wikipedia, "The Atlantic City Boardwalk was the first boardwalk in the United States, opening on June 26, 1870. The Boardwalk starts at Absecon Inlet and runs along the beach for 4 miles (6 km) to the city limit."
As far as Asbury Park's history, according to apboardwalk.com, "Founded in 1871 by manufacturer James Bradley, Asbury Park began as a seaside residential resort in a prime waterfront location. Shortly after the city’s inception, a beach boardwalk was constructed, featuring an orchestra pavilion, public changing rooms and a pier extending into the Atlantic Ocean, capitalizing on the opportunity to attract visitors beyond the local region."
Recently I had a chance to visit the Asbury Boardwalk and discovered many new eateries and attractions along the boardwalk along with new attractions in the Asbury Park Convention Hall, which is right along the boardwalk. There is plenty to see and eat along the boardwalk and there is lots of beach to enjoy.
There are lots to do along the main strip at the boardwalk including lots of music venues including the iconic Stony Pony and the famous Wonderbar. All the clubs and restaurants run adjacent to the boardwalk.
During summer the Stone Pony "summer stage" offers larger concerts outdoors on the stage which hosts many cool shows throughout summer. The Wonderbar also has an outdoor area as well.
So if you are thinking about a cool boardwalk to check out this summer, be sure to hit the Asbury Park boardwalk—a great boardwalk to walk and jog to get your steps in. Bikes are allowed during certain hours. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed on the boards. Check out our photo gallery below.
