One injured in Manchester hit and run
A 46-year-old Ocean Gate man was injured after being struck by a Mazda 3 on Molly Pitcher Lane in the Crestwood Village of Manchester Friday afternoon.
When officers arrived to the scene 46-year-old Dominick Demorato was alert and conscious but lying in the grass complaining of leg and back pain.
The investigation revealed that a silver Mazda struck Demorato, a part of the construction crew replacing a driveway on the street, as he was crossing the roadway.
Witnesses say the driver, identified as an elderly man, asked Demorato if he was okay and when Demorato said no, the man returned to his vehicle, inspected the front, and drove away.
Using information from witnesses investigating officers were able to locate the vehicle, a 2015 Mazda 3, registered to an 82-year-old Whiting female.
A follow-up investigation located the suspect who was identified as 81-year-old Robert Rancati of Whiting.
Sergeant Antonio Ellis of the Manchester Township Traffic Safety Unit is handling the investigation. Charges are pending.
Demorato was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River and listed in stable condition.
