Ocean, NJ man tried running over police officer after shoplifting at Target
An Ocean Township man is sitting inside of a cell at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township after being arrested for shoplifting and trying to run a police officer over with his vehicle.
The incident and charges were announced by the Ocean Township (Monmouth County) Police Department.
This all took place on Monday afternoon, starting around 2:30 pm, when Ocean Township Police said that they were dispatched to the Target in the Seaview Square Mall for a report of shoplifting taking place there.
One of the Ocean Township Police Captains was in the area and saw the alleged shoplifting driving near the Applebee's and was able to pull him over.
However, as soon as he got out of his police vehicle and began approaching the vehicle being driven by 42-year-old Anthony H. Bowe, the suspect then, "drove his vehicle directly at him in an attempt to strike him before fleeing the area."
Bowe then took off leading to Ocean Township Police putting out a BOLO alert to surrounding towns.
An Ocean Township Police Officer went to the Target and learned that Bowe allegedly stole more than $500.00 worth of merchandise upon speaking with staff with the Loss Prevention section.
Along with the BOLO police issued came a warrant for the arrest of Anthony H. Bowe which was charging him with Eluding, Aggravated Assault on Police, Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Criminal Attempt Assault by Auto.
The man police were looking for was found on Monday evening when Eatontown Police spotted his vehicle and arrested him without further incident.
Ocean Township Police said that from there, Bower was transported to their headquarters for processing and was then brought over to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township, pending an initial court appearance.
