What started out as two counts of robbery has tallied up to three for an Ocean Gate man already charged with robbing banks in Toms River and Lacey.

Robert Fitzpatrick Jr. of Ocean Gate has now been charged for his involvement in robbing the Wells Fargo Bank in Whiting on April 9.

On that day around 4:35 pm officers from the Manchester Township Police Department received a hold-up alarm from the Wells Fargo Bank located at 501 Route 530 in the Whiting section of the township.

While en route to the bank, responding officers learned that a male subject had entered the establishment, demanded money and after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash fled the bank on foot.

The officers were told that no weapon was displayed and that no force was used by the suspect during the robbery.

Numerous officers, who immediately responded to the area, cordoned off the bank and ensured that everyone was safe inside.

A search of the area was immediately begun, and included searches using police K-9s as well as the department’s drone.

These searches were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

On April 25, Toms River Police responded to the report of a bank robbery at the Bank of America located at 1051 Route 37 West.

While investigating that robbery it was determined that the suspect had similar physical descriptors to the individual who had robbed the Wells Fargo Bank in Whiting on April 9.

As was the case with the Wells Fargo robbery, the suspect in the Bank of America robbery fled the area on foot into the adjacent woods.

On May 29 Lacey Police responded to a bank robbery at the Kearney Bank, located at 630 Route 9 in the Lanoka Harbor section of the Township.

As was the case with the previous two robberies, the suspect in this most recent incident was determined to have similar physical descriptors and also fled the scene along a nearby wood line.

On Thursday, June 6 Detectives from both the Lacey and Toms River Police Departments, along with members of the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team and the Stafford Township Police Department K-9 Unit, executed a search warrant at Robert Fitzpatrick’s residence in Ocean Gate.

Fitzpatrick was taken into custody without incident.

After being processed and charged with both the Lacey and Toms River robberies, Fitzpatrick was transported to Manchester Township Police Department where he was subsequently charged with robbing the Whiting bank on April 9.

After being processed and served his complaints, he was lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a bail hearing.
