Ocean County will be mapping out a five-year Community Action Plan on how federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding and Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) should be spent, but it's looking for input first on the needs of residents.

The funding can be used for public services, infrastructure projects and housing programs, according to Erika Stahl, Assistant Planner for Toms River Township.

"Toms River Township has a Housing Rehab program to assist individuals that are low-moderate [income] that can't keep up with the maintenance of their homes and their home is now in disrepair," said Stahl.

Non-profits, such as those that service food pantries, offer homelessness assistance, or help seniors and youth, also benefit from the funding.

Residents are encouraged to take the survey to help decide which programs they'd like to see funded. It will be available through Sunday, January 18, on the County's Planning Department website.

"The whole plan actually describes how the funding for the next five years will be spent, what is given priority and what is considered low priority, medium priority and high priority for funding," Stahl said.

Projects with a higher priority have a better chance of receiving funding.
