Firefighters responded to the Ocean County House of Correction in Toms River on Saturday night — but didn't find a fire there.

Warden Sandra Mueller said a female inmate tampered with the sprinkler head on the fourth floor of the facility in downtown Toms River, triggering a fire alarm. There were two inmates in the cell and an investigation will determine the circumstances of their involvement. Any inmate who tampers with the sprinkler could face disciplinary actions.

Mueller said there was only some minor water damage and no injuries to any inmates, staff or firefighters.
