This story is a shocking one and one that left many disgusted and upset by what could only be categorized as a case of "animal abuse".

Living here at the Jersey Shore, we know that seagulls are pesky at times, and they do enjoy eating. So it's no surprise that they try to grab a bite anytime there is an opportunity. Yes, it can be frustrating, but where is the line when it comes to retaliation? Even when one decides to drop a bomb on your head, although some, not me, say that is good luck.

According to this incident, a man was on the boardwalk in North Wildwood when a gull tried to steal a French fry from his daughter. The man responded by proceeding to grab the bird (in broad daylight) and behead the animal. The incident happened in front of families, including children. There was no information as to how he decapitated the animal, but he managed to do it. "Witnesses at the scene told police they had seen the man decapitate the bird."

This week, a court handed down its ruling, and some are upset with it, saying it was a "slap on the wrist".

According to a Patch report, "The man who beheaded a seagull on the North Wildwood boardwalk has been sentenced to 263 days in jail and five years' probation, according to court records."

Soon we will be heading back to the boards, and we need to remember these animals are trying to survive, and yes, they are a pain sometimes, but stay calm and count to ten, it will help keeping thiws type of incident from happening again.
