If you think you’ve seen a big sandwich before, think again. Because what I experienced this weekend in Edison, New Jersey was on a whole different level of gigantic deliciousness.

When people say “big sandwich,” they usually mean hearty. Maybe double-stacked. Maybe loaded. But at Harold’s Deli, “big” means bigger than your head. Actually, bigger than four heads, because that’s about how many people it takes to finish one. Or, if you’re brave enough, you can attempt it solo (I won’t judge).

A Feast Fit for a Birthday

I ended up at Harold’s for a birthday celebration with friends and neighbors, and they warned me ahead of time. “Sue, wait until you see these sandwiches,” they said. I laughed. Then I saw them. And my jaw dropped.

We ordered the Hot Pastrami Sandwich, and when it arrived, I’m not kidding — it looked like a skyscraper on a plate. Layers upon layers upon layers of juicy pastrami stacked between slices of rye bread, topped with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and coleslaw. On the side? Extra bread and Russian dressing, just in case you feel like turning it into a few more sandwiches (and you will).

These mammoth sandwiches come in large and extra-large sizes, and according to our server, they can feed five to eight people. Honestly? I think they could feed an entire small village.

The Menu of Giants

Of course, the pastrami isn’t the only thing that’s enormous at Harold’s. The corned beef sandwich is a crowd favorite, and their desserts are legendary. Imagine milkshakes the size of your head, pickles that need two hands, ice cream sundaes fit for a party, and yes — the famous giant cheesecake that could double as a birthday cake.

Even breakfast at Harold’s is over-the-top. I haven’t tried it yet, but word on the street is their breakfast sandwiches are just as jaw-dropping as the rest of the menu.

In a Word? HUGE.

Harold’s Deli doesn’t just serve food — it serves experiences. It’s the kind of place that makes your inner foodie light up and your phone storage fill up with photos.
