Have you ever driven around New Jersey and suddenly thought, “Wait a minute… why DO we do that?”

We see the same things every single day. We pass them on our morning commute, notice them on the way to the Shore, and barely give them a second thought. But when you really stop and think about it, New Jersey has some pretty interesting quirks.

Here are nine things we see all the time in the Garden State that you probably never stopped to wonder about.

1. Jughandles Everywhere

Why does New Jersey sometimes make you drive past your destination just to turn around? The infamous jughandle! If you're new to Jersey, good luck figuring it out. If you've lived here forever, you don't even think twice.

2. Diners on Every Corner

New Jersey and diners go together like pancakes and syrup. Big menus, endless coffee and those giant dessert cases. We simply wouldn't be Jersey without them.

3. Parkway Exit Numbers

Ask a Jersey driver what exit they're near and they'll probably know immediately. Around here, exit numbers are practically a second language.

4. Water Towers

You can't miss them! Giant water towers seem to pop up all over New Jersey, quietly serving our communities while becoming familiar parts of the landscape.

5. Shore Town Signs

“Welcome to…” We see those signs every summer, and somehow they make us instantly feel like vacation has begun.

6. Deli Signs

Italian deli. Bagels. Subs. Breakfast sandwiches. Is there a New Jersey town without a deli? I'm not sure!

7. Wawa

You may not think twice about stopping for coffee, but New Jersey has turned a convenience store into a lifestyle.

8. Toll Booths and Toll Roads

You can drive for miles and suddenly, there it is. Another toll. Somehow, we've all become experts at knowing when to have the EZ-Pass ready.

9. Those Giant Roadside Signs

Whether they're advertising food, fireworks, furniture or the next big sale, giant roadside signs are practically part of the New Jersey scenery.

And honestly, that's part of what makes New Jersey so much fun. We don't always notice the little things that make our state our state, until someone from somewhere else points them out.

Maybe that's when we realize just how wonderfully Jersey we really are.
