It's interesting how a small state like New Jersey still has exciting new outdoor places to find and explore. A new article by islands.com explored a region of Jersey with abandoned towns, places to swim, and hiking trails.

Islands.com said "The New Jersey Pine Barrens is an area of around 1.1 million acres that spreads across seven counties in the state. Covering over 20% of New Jersey's land area, these pinelands are one of the largest surviving examples of the Atlantic coastal pine barren ecosystem, a fascinating ecological occurrence."

It's amazing to think that New Jersey, situated between Philadelphia and New York City, can have such a huge natural land area like the Pine Barrens. Islands.com added "One of the main attractions of the Pine Barrens is the gorgeous Blue Hole. This clear blue lake in the middle of the forest, and according to legend, the Blue Hole is bottomless and remains ice-cold year-round regardless of the weather." This is just one of the places to explore in the mysterious Pine Barrens.

By the way the "Blue Hole", according to Wikipedia, "The Blue Hole is located in the Pinelands of Monroe Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey and Winslow Township, Camden County, New Jersey. It is a clear blue body of water situated in the middle of a dense forest, with many similar such lakes in its immediate vicinity."
