New Jersey Turnpike Authority & E-Z Pass Just Gave Drivers A Generous $36 Million Gift
Did E-Z Pass and New Jersey's Turnpike Authority just...help us?
Wow. Did you see that out the window? Did I really just spot a flying pig?
Just a little joke to start off this feel-good article!
But yes, it is true.
According to NJ.com, New Jersey drivers, "are getting a $36 million gift from the Turnpike Authority and other toll agencies."
Well, thank you in advance. I doubt we will need a gift receipt but thank you.
So, what is this chunk of change going to be used for that will help?
Moving forward, the credit card fee New Jersey drivers are charged when using a credit or debit card to load money onto your E-Z Pass tag will be covered!
“The money will now be paid directly by the agencies in NJ E-ZPass, rather than paid through (contractor) Conduent,” said Tom Feeney, a Turnpike Authority spokesman according to NJ.com.
This will be the case for at least the next three years! (Hopefully it gets extended by then...)
It is true that cash is still an option for E-Z Pass but a whopping total of 90% of New Jersey drivers - myself included - use their debit or credit cards to pay.
So a chunk of us will luckily get to save a bit!
The average credit card processing fee ranges between 1.5% and 3.5%.
Will this new found money mean you can retire tomorrow? No, probably not.
But I still consider this amazing news because lately, all I have had to share these days are announcements that prices are going up or you will have to pay even more for something than you already are.
This is a breathe of fresh air!
But now my Jersey girl senses are tingling: what's the catch?
Because really, when is the last time someone in this state did something to save all of us money out of the goodness of their hearts?
Something to think about but I hope that I am 100% dead wrong on this one.
Okay, how about we switch things up to keep this happy vibe going!
What makes people happier than....donuts?! Nothing.
