Beware New Jerseyans Being Warned About New Text and Email Scams
The Better Business Bureau has come out to different media outlets that they're seeing an influx in scams. There are two timely phishing scams related to tariffs circulating.
New Jerseyans are being targeted by scams and how it affects our spending here in the Garden State. What are we looking for with these two scams to watch out for?
Fake Government Emails and Texts
Lifehacker reveals that some scammers are using malicious domains to make it look like official government websites. The words they seem to be using are "customs US and tariffs". Scammers usually include the links in emails sent to Americans that claim you recently purchased something and you need to make a payment immediately to avoid some kind of penalty.
Here's how to spot them from lifehacker.com: "Any request for a direct tariff payment is almost certainly a scam. Any official government website will have a “.gov” extension, so you should be suspicious of any “.com” or “.net” sites claiming to be associated with the government."
Fake emails and texts about PACKAGES
Scammers make it so confusing with emails and text messages from major shipping companies that come right to our inbox and phones. The email or text will say you are expecting a package from one of these companies like FedEx or UPS. Then the scammers will direct you to pay for this package.

Here's how to spot them from lifehacker.com: "If you actually have packages coming and you’re at all uncertain of their status, always verify details separately by going to the shipper’s main website and entering tracking information there, or contacting their customer service."
With so many packages coming to our homes from on-line shopping, please double check and trip check your messages coming in. If you receive an email or text, it's best to just delete it. For more information about these scams and more, CLICK HERE.
