Ocean County Memories: The Stores and Restaurants We Can’t Forget!

Ocean County, New Jersey has a way of staying in your heart. Between the salt air, small-town charm, and familiar landmarks, this place isn’t just about beaches, it’s home.

And for many of us, the stores and restaurants that have come and gone are tied to some of our very best memories.

I asked on Facebook which spots you miss most, and the responses poured in, from Toms River to Manahawkin to Point Pleasant. Turns out, we’re all a little nostalgic for the same lost gems.

The Places You Told Us You Miss

It’s not just an Ocean County thing, across New Jersey, favorite local spots have disappeared, replaced by new neighborhoods, housing developments, hurricanes, and plenty of change. But the memories? They stick.

My Ground Round Memories

One spot that will always feel special to me is the Ground Round. My parents loved it there. I can still picture the peanuts on the table and hear them asking, “Want to go to the Ground Round tonight?” Those family dinners, booths packed, laughter filling the air—are memories I’ll always treasure.

WOW…Remember Funtown Pier?

So many of you mentioned Funtown Pier in Seaside Park. And WOW, it was something else. Rides, arcades, boardwalk treats, flashing lights, summer nights, it was the place where summers happened.

Whether you were a local kid or just visiting once a year, it felt like the center of the universe. Even now, visitors who only came once remember it fondly.

The Memories Are Still Ours

Living here means sharing our towns with summer crowds, and those visitors became part of the story. But the real life? That happened in the diners, shops, and little restaurants where we made memories, first dates, after-game meals, birthdays, or just piling the whole family into a booth.

The List of Lost Gems

You shared so many spots that make us all go, “Remember when?” Ground Round, Funtown Pier, and others are gone, but they live on in our stories.
