Growing up in New Jersey, hearing the ice cream truck music coming down the street was enough to get kids moving fast. It wasn't just about getting a frozen treat; it was the excitement of hearing that familiar tune, grabbing some money, and racing outside before the truck passed by.

For many of us, it was a simple summer tradition that brought neighbors together and created some great childhood memories. Even today, that sound can bring back memories of hot summer days, bike rides, and chasing the ice cream truck down the block.

What were the most popular ice cream treats that people loved from ice cream trucks?

If you grew up chasing the ice cream truck around New Jersey, you probably had a favorite treat you ordered every time. Bomb Pops were always a popular choice, and plenty of kids couldn't resist a Screwball with that little gumball waiting at the bottom. Strawberry Shortcake bars, Chocolate Éclairs, Toasted Almond, and those colorful character pops were also summer favorites.

And then there was the Choco Taco and the Chipwich. For a lot of people, they were the ultimate ice cream truck pick. Ask a group of Jersey residents what they used to get from the ice cream truck, and chances are you'll hear a lot of these classic favorites mentioned. By the way, don't forget the classic "Italian Ice Cups". I preferred the lemon!

I actually worked a few summers as an ice cream man, and it was a pretty cool job. I got to hang out at the beach and get paid to sell tasty ice cream treats. The problem was I spent a lot of my pay on chili dogs lol the hot dog guy was parked next to me, and I loved a good chili dog more than ice cream lol.

What was your favorite from the "Ice Cream Truck" growing up here in the Garden State?
