Right now, the forecast is hinting at another round of unsettled weather moving in Thursday (Christmas Day) into Friday, but before you start dreaming of sledding and snow-covered trees, let’s talk about what’s realistically on the table.

More Wet Than White, for Most of Us

The main story with this upcoming system looks to be rain, not snow. Temperatures appear not to be snow-like, especially for coastal and central parts of the state, which makes widespread accumulating snow unlikely.

That said, it wouldn’t be a true Jersey forecast without a little uncertainty.

Could There Be an Icy Mix?

According to our WOBM Meteorologist Dan Zarrow, areas like Ocean County and Monmouth County could see some wintry elements mixed in, especially if colder air sneaks in at the right time.

We’re talking: A brief icy mix, maybe a few flurries (I'm hoping) and possibly some slick spots if temperatures dip just enough

But let’s keep expectations realistic.

Accumulating Snow? Don’t Count On It

If you’re hoping for a classic white Christmas with an inch or two of snow blanketing the ground, the odds aren’t great, especially near the shore. While inland or higher-elevation spots in New Jersey sometimes sneak in a surprise dusting, significant accumulation looks doubtful with this system.

At best, some towns might see a quick coating on grassy or elevated surfaces before rain takes over.

So… White Christmas or Not?

For most of New Jersey: A true white Christmas is unlikely. Expect mostly wet conditions. A flurry or icy mix isn’t impossible, especially early or late in the weather system.

Still, weather in late December can change quickly, and even a few flakes on Christmas morning can feel magical.

We’ll keep watching the forecast closely, because in New Jersey, you never completely rule out snow until the system has passed.
