Matty D & Causeway Really Cares
Matt DeRiggi is a fighter. The 25-year old Toms River resident was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy when he was just 7 and is now confined to a wheelchair. He was very active at both Toms River High School North and Ocean County College and is a fixture at High School East basketball games where his brother Tom is the head coach. He’s also a devoted fan of Rutgers football and has built a friendship with Coach Greg Schiano and many players, include those now in the NFL. Friends of Matt are hosting a comedy show on Saturday, September 7th at the Grunin Center at Ocean County College featuring Jeff Norris and Gemini and other surprise performers and guests. The goal is to raise funds to assist Matt’s incredible family with medical bills, medications and other essentials. To that end a New Jersey Charitable nonprofit “MD Keep the Faith” has been formed to also help other families impacted by DMD.Tickets for the comedy show are available through the Grunin Center website at www.grunincenter.com/events/md-keep-the-faith-fundraiser/
The Causeway Family of Dealerships and Causeway CARes have been raising awareness and money for community issues in Ocean County since 1969. Those issues include homelessness, food insecurity, senior and veteran’s needs, education and many others. The 7th Annual Causeway CARes 5K is scheduled for Sunday, October 13 at Southern Regional High School with proceeds from this year’s run/walk to benefit Fulfill and Project Home Repair. The first six events have raised over $215,000 for various non-profits. You can register online at www.raceforum.com/causeway and the first 250 registrants are guaranteed a t-shirt.
