Police arrested Stephen Wise, 59, formerly of Pine Beach, after they determined he had no legitimate reason to be on the property at Washington Street Elementary. Investigators say Wise was seen standing near the fence line of the school grounds, but was never near any children or the building itself.

Detectives say Wise told them he was only "passing by the school on his way to another location." He was not determined to have been engaged in any other criminal activity.

Wise was charged with Criminal Trespass and housed in the Ocean County Jail pending a future court date.
