A North Jersey man has been charged with groping a teen girl while swimming in the ocean in Wildwood Crest last week.

According to Wildwood Crest Police, Joseph McCourt, 32, from Bayonne, NJ, was charged after the 17-year-old girl said the man touched her inappropriately while the two were swimming on the beach near Heather Road on Wednesday, August 30.

Lifeguards called the police to the Buttercup Road beach after the alleged incident and witnesses directed them to McCourt, who was found underneath a beach towel drinking alcohol, according to a release from police on Facebook.

He was identified and arrested. He was also issued a citation for drinking on the beach.

Police say McCourt may have had interactions with other minors on the beach that day.
