Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Is On For 2020 But Will Be Different

It's fair to say at this point that even the longest held traditions are in question now that we're in a world with COVID-19, but we now know that one of America's most beloved fall traditions will go on (as it has for nearly 100 years), but with some key changes.

The details on exactly what form the 2020 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will take haven't been specified yet, but Macy's officials said last week that they're working with New York City officials to hammer out details.

Obviously, in a day and age where the phrase "social distancing" has become a part of every day life, an event that regularly draws millions to crowd the streets of the country's biggest city won't be able to take the form that we're used to.

In a press conference last week, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio hinted at a number of options for a socially distant event, saying:

“Some is going to be virtual, there might be some small in-person pieces, spread out pieces, it’s not going to look at all of course like how we are used to”

But both de Blasio and Macy's officials assured Americans that the tradition that is only 4 years away from its 100th anniversary will indeed take place on Thanksgiving Day 2020 (Thursday, November 26th, if you're keeping track at home).

The Macy's officials assured us that they'll have much more information for us in due course, saying, "stay tuned for more details later this fall".
