Local Summer is For the Birds
I stand by my statement.
Every year I see locals post on social media, expressing their excitement that local summer is here and the BENNYs are gone.
Now I get it, traffic in the area is pretty brutal in the summer, the beaches are packed, and you spend a lot of effort bobbing and weaving through crowds on the boardwalks.
However, I am a summer girl through and through.
You can keep your pumpkin-spiced lattes, your riding boots, and shackets. I love apple cider, but I love hot summer days at the beach more.
This may just be recency bias for my "hot take," because it feels like Mother Nature flipped the switch on humidity the moment September rolled in.
We have had low humidity and the temperatures haven't been nearly warm enough for me to partake in local summer activities.
I'm not a sunbathing gal, I am far too fair-skinned for that. If I'm at the beach I need to go in the water. Our weather hasn't been warm enough for that.
On that same note, local summer means that many beaches are only guarded on weekends.
Because I care about my safety, I won't go into the water when there are no lifeguards.
If you are like me and like to sneak off to the beach on a random Tuesday, you still can, but stay out of the water.
Seriously, don't go into the ocean when lifeguards are on duty. It is incredibly dangerous.
You can enjoy your local summer, I'll just be sitting here waiting for next summer to roll around once more so I can enjoy the perfect Jersey Shore beach day.
