A fireworks related accident has sent a Little Egg Harbor man to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he remains in critical condition.

Township police and EMS responded to Great Bay Boulevard on Sunday morning around 12:55 am where they found a 23-year old man semi-conscious and bleeding from his head.

Police said they were told by witnesses that the man was lighting a mortar firework when it suddenly went off prematurely in his hands.

He suffered serious injuries to his head and hands as a result.

"This tragic incident provides a potent reminder to our community that illegal fireworks can be dangerous and unpredictable and should only be used by licensed, trained professionals," Little Egg Harbor Police said on Facebook.
