So I’m going to bounce around a bit today:

Those couple of unseasonably warm days earlier this week were like getting a shot of adrenaline and while spring does not arrive for another 41 days there is light at the end of the winter tunnel.

We went through December and January basically unscathed and the forecast for the next 10 days or so does not call for any significant snow or even bitter cold weather.  That’s good news for us and bad news for those who depend on plowing snow to make money.

It has been a tremendous season for the Toms River North wrestling team but it ended with some disappointment last night in the NJSIAA Team Tournament.  The Class A South champion Mariners fell to fellow Shore Conference power Howell in the South Jersey Group 5 semifinals 34-26 in match that saw the teams split the 14 bouts but bonus points turned out to be the difference.

The Rebels, who are ranked #3 in the state will now visit section top-seed Southern in what should be another war on Friday night with the winner to advance to Sunday’s team championships at the RWJBarnabas Health Arena in Toms River.

Jackson Memorial, Lacey and Point Beach also advanced to Friday’s sectional finals with wins last night.

Croydon Hall was an all-boys academy in Middletown which closed in 1975 and might be best known for producing Norm Caldwell, a 6’2 basketball standout who scored 2,302 points in his high school career which ended two years before the school closed.  That total stood as a Shore Conference record until last night when Ranney’s Bryan Antione broke it with a dunk late in the 3rd quarter of what would be an easy win over Mater Dei Prep.

The 6’5 Antione, who is heading to Villanova finished with 30 points and now has 2,313 in a career that still has some big games left.  You can see highlights, including the record-breaker on shoresportsnetwork.com
