Lakewood man found under the influence following Lakehurst accident
A Lakewood man is in some trouble after his arrest in Lakehurst where he fled the scene of a car accident on Route 70 and Route 547 and was later found with drugs in his system and his vehicle on Wednesday around 4:49 pm.
Steven Mitryk, 54, also had an active warrant out for his arrest in Brick Township.
In addition to drug possession charges he was issued nine motor vehicle summonses.
On the day of the crash, a Lakehurst Police Officer responded and investigated the three car collision but discovered one of them wasn't there.
After receiving a description of the vehicle that fled, officers began searching the area for the third vehicle, a 2005 Honda Accord, which was found a short time later with damage consistent from the accident reported.
The responding officer was able to determine that Mitryk was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS).
During his investigation, the officer was also able to observe a suspected Suboxone strip in plain view.
A subsequent search of Mitryk and his vehicle was then conducted that turned up multiple wax folds of suspected Heroin, multiple strips of suspected Suboxone, a hypodermic syringe and other drug paraphernalia.
It was also discovered that Mitryk had an active Brick Township Municipal Court warrant for his arrest, in the amount of $500.00.
Mitryk was then placed under arrest and transported to Lakehurst Police Headquarters for processing.
He was charged with Possession of Heroin, Possession of Suboxone, Possession of a Hypodermic Needle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Being under the Influence of CDS and Driving While Intoxicated and issued a warrant for the charges.
Mitryk was also issued nine motor vehicle summonses for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident, Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle, Suspended Driver's License, Unlicensed Driver and Failure to Maintain Lane.
He was transported to the Ocean County Jail where he was lodged pending a mandatory court appearance.
