Lakewood Police have charged a man caught 'red handed' following a stabbing on Clifton Avenue Sunday.

A patrol officer spotted Melvin Torres, 27, around 7:30 pm on Sunday holding a large knife with blood on his hands.

The officer exited his vehicle and ordered Torres to then drop the knife and lay on the ground at gunpoint.

Torres complied and with the assistance of a back up officer they were both able to place him under arrest and recover the knife.

Investigators learned that Torres had stabbed two people after engaging in a verbal altercation.

Although the wounds appeared to be minor in nature, both 49-year old Michael Lazzaro of Ocean Township and Jose Ruiz-Sabas, were transported to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Two other people reportedly sustained minor burns after Torres threw hot water on them.

As a result, Torres was charged with Aggravated Assault and several Weapons Offenses.
