Lakehurst Police are hoping you can help them find the driver of an ATV who eluded them in a pursuit on Monday afternoon at speeds of over 70-mph.

The ATV driver started out along Union Avenue but when police tried to stop the rider, he increased his rate of speed.

Police then stopped the pursuit of the ATV rider who failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens because the driver was speeding through a school zone while children were being dismissed from Lakehurst Elementary School and was thus creating a public safety hazard.

"While we have no problems with ATV's and other off road vehicles, this operator not only operated the ATV on a roadway, they also had no regard for the children who were actively being dismissed at this time," Lakehurst Police said. "The operator also had no regard for their own safety, as they were traveling at these speeds with no helmet on."

Anyone with information on this ATV or the operator/owner is asked to contact Lakehurst Police at (732) 657 - 7811 or Officer William Bowers at wbowers@lakehurstpolice.org.
