Lakehurst volunteer firefighters extend an act of kindness to a family of eight burned out of their rental home earlier this week. They're asking for gift cards, cloths, shoes, toys and even diapers as part of a collection drive to help the family.

The blaze caused extensive damage Tuesday night to the Lakeshore rental property occupied by Richard Peer and his family.

According to the Asbury Park Press, firefighters say gift cards from Dollar General, Shop Rite, Visa and clothing stores are needed. However, they're not accepting cash.

Women's clothing sizes are: shirts, small, extra large and extra extra large; pants, sizes 3,16 and large; shoe sizes 6,5,7 and 8.

Men's clothing sizes are; pants 34-30, 30-30; shirts, small, medium and large; shoes, 9, 9.5 and 10w.

Cloths, toys and diapers are accepted for an infant girl who is 10 months old.

Items can be dropped off at the Fire Department at 2 Proving Ground Road. To schedule a donation, call 732-657-1106.

Fire Investigators determined the blaze to be accidental caused by candles. It's believed that  the family used candles to light the home because they had been living without electricity for two years.
