Jersey Mike’s Week 1 Boys Lacrosse Team of the Week: Point Boro
Every week this spring, Jersey Mike’s and Shore Sports Network will be teaming up to select a Lacrosse Team of the Week based on its performance over the past week.
The Jersey Mike's Team of the Week for Week 1 is Point Boro, which started the season 5-0 for the best start in program history. Shore Sports Network was at practice on Saturday to present the Panthers and head coach Pat Brady with a special Team of the Week certificate and a $250 Jersey Mike's gift card.
The Panthers started the season with a 15-2 victory over Marlboro and then defeated Toms River North, 17-8. A 15-1 victory over Neptune was followed by a 15-5 triumph over Donovan Catholic before Point Boro concluded its first 10 days of the season with a 16-6 victory over Edison.
Senior midfielder Aidan Kirk, a returning SSN First Team All-Shore selection, has led the way with the help of his younger brother, freshman attackman Brady Kirk. Aidan Kirk led all of New Jersey in scoring through five games with 20 goals and 14 assists for 34 points while Brady was right behind him with 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points. Point Boro has also received significant offensive contributions from junior attackman/midfielder Brian Ostrander, senior attackman Matt Koehler, and senior midfielder Nick Campbell.
Another standout has been face-off specialist Tommy Morris, who through eight games has won 117 of 160 draws, good for a 73 percent win rate. Senior goalie Matt Azzarrano has 48 saves with a 54% save percentage.
Since Week 1 came to a close, Point Boro had its winning streak snapped with a 15-2 loss to No. 9 Red Bank, but they responded with a big 13-9 Class B South win over Barnegat and today topped Central Regional, 16-1, to improve to 7-1.
Despite missing two games with a minor injury, Aidan Kirk has 31 goals and 18 assists for 47 points and during the win over Edison became the first player in program history to score 100 career goals. Brady Kirk has been excellent with 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points. Ostrander has 8 goals and 10 assists, Koehler has 13 goals and.4 assists, and Campbell has 10 goals and 3 assists, The Panthers are averaging 11.8 goals per game and allowing 5.9 goals per game.
