By now most of you are likely somewhat familiar that Jersey Mike’s does more than just make delicious hot and cold sub sandwiches but also supports numerous charitable endeavors in the local communities of their nearly 2,500 locations nationwide.  At the top of that list is their “Month of Giving” and the 13th annual fundraising campaign is now underway and will run for the month of March.

During the month customers can make donations in stores or through the Jersey Mike’s mobile app.  Across the country some 200 local charities will benefit including hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and more.  At the Jersey Shore and in New Jersey money raised will go to the Valerie Fund which supports children with cancer and blood disorders.  Established in 1976 there are eight centers, six of which are in the state including The Unterberg Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center.

The month-long fundraising campaign culminates with the “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 29 when Jersey Mike’s donates every single dollar from sales which locally would benefit the Valerie Fund.  Founder/CEO Peter Cancro, a Point Pleasant Beach native who started the company when he was a senior in high school, hopes to surpass last year’s record-breaking total of $20 million raised through the effort nationwide.

The inaugural “Month of Giving” in 2011 raised $600,000 through what was then 454 locations and like the company the annual fundraiser has grown.  Since then Jersey Mike’s has raised a staggering $67 million for charities across the country.
