• A 41-year-old Mays Landing man was killed after his car crashed on Route 40 early Saturday morning

A Mays Landing man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

The Hamilton Township Police Department says just after 12:30 AM, they were called out to the area of Route 40 and Strand Avenue.

Accident Details

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Cadillac XTS, being driven by 41-year-old William Bussey III, was traveling eastbound on Route 40 and lost control. The vehicle left the roadway over the westbound shoulder and struck a series of trees before coming to rest.

Bussey sustained traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say he was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Road Closed for Hours

Route 40 was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Assisting officers at the scene were the Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad; AtlantiCare paramedics; the Mays Landing, Richland, and Laureldale Fire Departments, and the Atlantic County Prosecutors' Office.
