
11 Arrested in Wild Weekend in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ
- EHT Police handled a busy weekend with incidents including assaults, DWIs, and a robbery
- A teen was charged after allegedly attacking school staff and a police officer
- Other cases involved an armed man at McDonald’s, domestic violence arrests, and a burglary at M&S Produce
If you've ever wondered what police officers deal with on a daily basis, here's a good snapshot.
The Egg Harbor Township Police Department released a list of incidents that their officers encountered over the past weekend or so, from Thursday, September 25th, through Sunday, the 28th.
Details of a teenager who allegedly assaulted multiple school employees and a resource officer, several DWI arrests, domestic violence cases, shoplifting, and more are all spelled out below.
And this isn't a full list. The department said, "This is just a small snapshot" of what went on in EHT.
Friday Incidents in EHT
High School Fight, 3 Charged
As school was beginning on Thursday, September 25th, officers were called to the high school to take custody of a 14-year-old girl who allegedly assaulted five school employees and a class-III police officer after she was involved in an altercation with two other juveniles.
She was charged with aggravated assault against school employees and against a police officer. The other two were charged with simple assault for their part in the fight.
Teen Charged with Eluding
Later that same day, an 18-year-old was charged with eluding a police officer.
3 Charged with DWI
On Friday, September 26th, three people were charged with driving while intoxicated in three separate incidents.
One person, Robert White, was additionally charged with assault by auto for injuries sustained by a school bus driver when he allegedly crashed into a bus that had students on board in the area of Spruce Avenue and the Black Horse Pike.
Armed Man at McDonald's
Later that evening, at about 8:37 PM, officers responded to McDonald's on the Black Horse Pike near Uibel Avenue for a report of a man who had been allegedly waving a firearm in the drive-thru and who had reportedly stated he was on his way to commit murder. A woman was reported to be unconscious inside the vehicle as well.
Officers located the vehicle and a pursuit ended in Pleasantville. A firearm and ammunition were recovered from inside the vehicle, according to cops. The driver, Wilmar Perez-Velasquez, was charged with weapons offenses as well as DWI; he was turned over to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
3-vehicle Accident
Just after 9:00 Friday night, police say a Chevrolet Tahoe disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Fernwood Avenue and Mill Road, colliding with a Nissan Juke that had been traveling on Mill Road. Both vehicles then struck a third vehicle, a Mazda M3, that was at the stop sign. The driver of the Juke was seriously injured. Summonses and/or charges are pending further investigation.
Saturday Incidents in EHT
2 Domestic Violence Cases
On Saturday, September 27th, officers had two arrests involving domestic violence incidents that happened just minutes apart.
At 2:41 PM, the first incident ended with a man being charged with aggravated assault and attempted strangulation.
At 2:45 PM, a second incident involved a man being charged with simple assault on three people and resisting arrest as he attempted to flee when he was advised he was under arrest.
Sunday Incidents in EHT
Robbery at M&S Produce
On Sunday morning, workers at M&S Produce on the Black Horse Pike discovered that the business had been burglarized overnight.
Officers and detectives processed the scene and the business reported that thousands of dollars worth of damage had taken place as a result of the burglary. The crime is still under investigation at this time.
Walmart Shoplifting Allegedly Turns Violent
Sunday afternoon at about 3:30, police say a robbery took place at Walmart.
Quincey Knight was arrested after he threatened a loss prevention employee and shoved him out of the way while stealing items from the store. Knight then refused to comply with police when he was being taken into custody.
Charges were placed on a warrant.
Surrender
A man turned himself in on Sunday, who the EHT Police Department had issued a warrant on September 26th for robbery. He was transported to ACJF without incident after processing.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
