How to Watch New Black Horse Pike Traffic Cameras Live
Egg Harbor Township, N.J. — Nearly half a decade after work began, you can now view real-time traffic cameras along the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor and Hamilton Townships.
It was in July of 2021 when we first wrote about giant metal poles that began appearing at big intersections in Atlantic County, and we correctly speculated at the time that they were likely going to be for traffic cameras.
While that part was correct, we didn't expect it would take almost five years to watch those cameras.
Those cameras are just one part of a large-scale modernization of the Black Horse Pike that has included the installation of dozens of traffic sensors, digital highway signs, and improved traffic lights, all designed to make your commute a little smoother.
When all of the pieces of the puzzle come together, the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be able to monitor traffic flow in real time, post alerts on those big signs, and even adjust the timing of red lights.
New Cameras Now Live Along Routes 40/322
Three traffic cameras are now operational along the Pike — one near Hamilton Mall (looking west), another at English Creek Avenue (looking down at the intersection), and one at Tilton Road (looking west toward the old Shore Mall).
There are no direct links to these cameras, but getting to the live video feeds is very simple.
- Go to 511nj.org
- On the left, click/tap on [Cameras]
- A map will appear with a Camera List on the right; select "US 40 Tour"
- When the map zooms to Route 40, tap on any of the red camera icons
Having watched myself drive past these cameras, I can tell you that they really are "real time." What you are seeing is typically only one or two seconds behind.
And if you want to see other NJDOT cameras across the region, simply choose different highways from that camera list menu. You can watch traffic from Routes 47 and 347, 55, 9, the Garden State Parkway, and more.
