A winery and vineyard on a 4.73-acre property with production facilities, a tasting room, and a single-family home is up for sale for $3.4 million in Cape May.

The owner of Turdo Vineyards & Winery on Bayshore Road in North Cape May has put the 27-year-old business and its property up for sale.

Salvatore and Sara Turdo told the Philadelphia Business Journal they are selling to fully retire.

Popular Local Winery Too Much to Handle for Couple

Salvatore Turdo said he and his wife, Sara, are selling because the demands of running the popular local winery have made it another full-time job, rather than the hobby the two thought it would be when they bought the property and cleared the land for the vineyard in 1998.

“It hurts to sell it," Turdo said. "But at this point in my life, I'm tired. I'm 73 years old, and I want to enjoy a few more years of just traveling with my wife and those things.”

What the Sale Includes

The real estate listing describes it as a rare opportunity to own a highly successful business, which will be transferred as a complete turnkey operation, including nearly five acres with three buildings and a single-family home.

The sale will include the winery's license, equipment, and remaining inventory, but not the brand, as it is a family name.

Turdo produces between 1,200 and 1,600 cases of wine annually.

Turdo said the family has kept the business small to preserve its "European small vineyard authenticity."

The winery has grown rapidly from its humble beginnings with only a small tasting room to the current location with a beautiful large outdoor patio tasting room bottling and storage facility and a 1200 square foot production facility.

Complete with wine presses, grape crushers, destemmers, pumps, hoses, wine filters, French Oak barrels, stainless steel tanks, a forklift, and everything else needed to continue producing exceptional wines.

The vineyard has been featured on HGTV and has been mentioned in the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and named Best Winery at the Shore by Philadelphia Magazine.

The Property Includes a Family Home

The couple custom-built a 1,900-square-foot residence so they would not have to make the commute from their North Jersey home.

The three-story house has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The listing brochure highlights the house's open floor plan and 30-foot ceilings that give it potential for a variety of uses, including as a wine tasting or private events space.

A new owner could also apply for wholesale and retail outlet licenses to sell its products in restaurants and liquor stores, Turdo said. He and his wife only sell their wine on site.

The property is listed through Christina Clemans of Tim Kerr Sotheby's International Realty.
