Valentine's Day Sparks A Trend Toward Simpler Celebrations

With Valentine's Day already next weekend, the excitement apparently just isn't there like it used to be.

A lot of couples aren't counting down the days this year, choosing to skip the traditional gifts and big plans that usually come along with the holiday of love.

I totally get that. Many are shifting away from "stuff" and leaning into moments that are a little more low-key and memorable, like going for a nice long walk, grabbing a cup of coffee, or cooking dinner together at home.

A new study is out from personal-finance company WalletHub that shows 2 in 5 people say Valentine’s Day activities are not affordable this year.

It's being called "love on a budget."  Though many couples are still paying the projected $199.78 this year, it's not uncommon for those to look for deals and turn to coupons to save a buck or two.

Have you seen the prices on cards these days?! Put a little extra love into it and make one yourself. Homemade cards are the best, in my opinion.

Another key takeaway from the study is that 82% of Americans believe that Valentine’s Day is a trick to make people spend more money. That's a large percentage!
