What Names Are New Grandparents Choosing In 2026?

A friend of mine is about to become a grandmom, and she's been going back and forth trying to decide what she wants to be called: Mom Mom, or Gram.

It's such an exciting time, and both are super cute! It's so hard to choose!

It got me thinking, do most grandparents stick with the traditional names, or are more people choosing something a little more unique in 2026?

Growing up, I had a Grandmom and Grandpop on both sides, and as for my kids, they call my mom Grandmom, and my husband's mom Grammy.

All very traditional.

A recent survey by Chicco looked into this, and it found that Grandma is still the most popular name across the country. But there are some close contenders.

Here in New Jersey and throughout the Northeast, Nana is really common.

For grandfathers, Grandpa is the overall favorite nationwide, but in the Garden State, Pop and Pop Pop are both popular choices.
