All we can really say is, what a winter it's been so far in New Jersey. Ever since Thanksgiving of last year, this cold air has been relentless.

And now that January has arrived, so has the snow. But have you noticed? Pretty much all the winter weather events have happened either over the weekend or during the holidays.

I guess that's convenient if you don't want too many snow days to pile up. Had those storms hit during the weekdays, I can promise you a lot of New Jersey schools would be going further into the summer.

Snow lovers, and dog owners

For snow lovers, this kind of snow is fantastic news. Especially for kids who were hoping for a snow day at some point (even though the Jan. 25 storm was a Sunday, a large majority of schools did close on Monday.. a snow day).

And for the dogs who also love the snow, it's even better. It really is fun to watch a dog enjoy themselves in the snow playing in the kids.

But despite that, our four-legged friends still need to get their daily exercise in. So the leash must come out once those streets and sidewalks are cleared and good to go.

But before you head on out, there is something important to keep in mind every time it snows, and the days following.

A simple overlook

It's easy to forget about this sometimes even for the most experienced dog owners. Your pups might not like walking where rock salt is present due to the reaction it has with their paws.

If your dog is walking funny on the streets and sidewalks, the rock salt is most likely the reason for it. Just something to keep in mind when charting your path with your best friend for that nice, snow-covered, winter walk.
