NEWS UPDATE: Most of New Jersey Under Extreme Fire Danger
The drought conditions continue here in the Garden State. According to NBC4 New York, there has been no significant rain in Newark, New Jersey in 40 days now. This is the longest dry stretch in Newark since 1946 when the state saw 26 consecutive days of no significant rain in the Newark area. The 3rd longest drought was in November of 1939 when the state saw 25 consecutive dry days.
According to NBC4 New York parts of Ocean and Burlington County are under "extreme" drought conditions and it's the worst in over 20 years for these locations.
According to the nynjtc the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, Most os the state of New Jersey is under "extreme" fire danger conditions. "Fire risk in New Jersey remains extreme and the entire state is under Stage 3 fire restrictions. Please continue to exercise caution, check for any 🚩red flag warnings in your area, and report any signs of smoke or fire to your local authorities."
Officials urge residents to report any smoke/fire sightings and to be extremely careful when out in the states wooded areas.
Fire in Jackson Township, Ocean County is now nearly 90% contained. According to CBS News, "Fire officials said in an update Friday evening that 350 acres were burned and the fire was 90% contained. The NJFFS said Stump Tavern Road is closed from Route 571 to Route 528. Beyond the initial evacuations Wednesday night, there are no evacuations as of Friday evening, the update said."
