It’s a debate that rages this time of year…every year.  Is “Die Hard” a Christmas movie?  I’ve always leaned strongly on the side that it is NOT but I’m starting to move to the other side after doing some research.  Here are some facts to consider:

  • The movie takes place entirely during the Christmas holidays.
  • The setting is during a Christmas party.
  • There are four Christmas songs played during the movie, “Let it Snow,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Christmas in Hollis” and “Jingle Bells.”
  • The writer of the movie Steven E. de Souza says it is indeed a Christmas movie which I guess would settle the debate.

Look there is a stark difference between “Die Hard” and “It’s A Wonderful Life” but for the first time I have to admit the Bruce Willis classic deserves to be considered a Christmas movie.

Whether or not you would put it on your list of holiday favorites is very much an individual thing but I think it’s fair to say it should be considered even if a movie in which 23 people die is not your cup of egg nog.

Well on Monday I will come out with my 10 favorites and you’ll find out if “Die Hard” is on the list.  I’m interested in seeing yours as well.
